bloodfl0w: Do you see this amazing, handsome young man?His name is Chris Zaragoza, and on October 31, 2011, after getting into a horrible fight with his mother, he took his own life. He was only seventeen.  This kid always had a smile on his face. He always cheered people up when they needed it, he was always cracking jokes, he never liked seeing anyone upset, and he helped everyone through their problems even though he had plenty of his own. Those of us who were close to him knew he was battling depression and family issues, but he rarely ever showed his sensitive side. My heart is broken because nothing can ever bring him back; I can’t get over the fact that I’ll never see his gorgeous smile or hear his goofy laugh ever again. And here’s my problem. My (former) high school, where I met Chris, refuses to even acknowledge what happened. Here’s a kid that was friends with everybody, all his teachers loved him and he was just an all-around good guy, and yet when he commits suicide, he DIES, the school won’t even give him a moment of silence during the morning announcements. What’s wrong with that picture? The school also didn’t want the kids wearing shirts that were made with his name in his memory, but because of all the angry phonecalls they received, they’re allowing it now. This is the same school that did absolutely nothing when he went to the guidance office for help with his depression; they didn’t even call his parents to let them know how serious the situation was. Last year, a group of kids in my graduating class thought up a great program for kids who were dealing with suicidal thoughts and depression, because this time last year too, another kid in our school named Brian Lizama committed suicide. The best part about the program was that it would cost NOTHING, which is a big deal for William Floyd School District because we’re broke and they cancelled a bunch of after-school programs as it is. In a survey that the group handed out to 180 students as part of the presentation, 90 of them said they have thought about suicide before, and 160 of them said they would like to see a program put into place for those who need it. The group of students presented it to the principal, the guidance office, and the board of education, and they all thought it was a great idea… yet nothing was done. Now I’m stepping in and I’m fighting to see a memorial in his name and a program put into place so that no one else loses good friends or family members like Chris to suicide. I love you Chris, I’m fighting for you and I’m not going to stop until this happens. You were an angel even before you left us - I won’t forget that and I refuse to let anyone else forget, either!
